How to get here

By plane

Oporto | Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro

The airport closest to Coimbra is Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro in Maia, Oporto, some 130 kilometers away.

From there you can get to Coimbra by:

• Airport Shuttle: straight from the airport to your lodgings in Coimbra. They have a set timetable, but can be adapted to suit different schedules. 
• Subway + Train: there is a subway line at the airport, from it you can reach either of the two train stations : São Bento or Campanhã, both of which connect to Coimbra.
  • Estação de São Bento: From Aeroporto Subway station take  the Violet Line  (direction Trindade), exit at Trindade (15 stops), switch to the Yellow Line (direction Santo Ovídio) and exit at São Bento (2 stops) – takes around 35 minutes.
  • Estação de Campanhã: From Aeroporto Subway station take  the Violet Line  (direction Trindade), exit at Verdes (2 stops), switch to the Red Line (direction Estádio do Dragão) and exit at Campanhã (17 stops) – takes around 40 minutes.
  • Trains to Coimbra: timetables available at CP -Comboios de Portugal
• Subway + Bus: from the Airport take the subway to Campo 24 de Agosto station (Violet Line, direction Trindade).  From there Rede Expressos’ long range buses connect Porto to Coimbra.
• Car: Car Rental is available at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. The trip to Coimbra, through A1 highway, takes about 1h25

Lisbon | Lisbon Airport

Lisbon’s Airport is around 200km away from Coimbra

From there you can reach Coimbra by

• Airport Shuttle: straight from the airport to your lodgings in Coimbra. They have a set timetable, but can be adapted to suit different schedules. 
• Subway + Train:  there is a subway line at the airport, from it you can reach either of the two train stations : Oriente or Santa Apolónia, both of which connect to Coimbra.
  • Oriente: From Aeroporto Subway station take  the Red Line, exit at Oriente (3 stops)
  • Estação de Santa Apolónia: From Aeroporto Subway station take the Red Line, exit at São Sebastião (direction São Sebastião, 11 stops), switch to the Blue Line and exit at Santa Apolónia (direction Santa Apolónia, 7 stops) 
  • Trains to Coimbra: timetables available at CP -Comboios de Portugal
• Subway + Bus: from the Airport take the subway to Sete Rios station (Red Line, exit at São Sebastião, switch to Blue Line – direction Reboleira- exit at Sete Rios – 2 stops).  From there Rede Expresso’s long range buses connect Lisbon to Coimbra.

Car: Car Rental is available at Lisbon Airport. The trip to Coimbra, through A1 highway, takes about 2h00.
