How to get to Coimbra

The closest airport to Coimbra is in Maia, OPORTO (Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro), some 130km away.

From there you can get here by:
• Airport Shuttle — Straight from the airport to your lodgings in Coimbra. They have a set timetable, but it can be adapted to suit different schedules.
• Subway + Train — There is a subway line at the airport, from it you can reach either of the two train stations, São Bento or Campanhã, both of which connect to Coimbra.
___> Estação de São Bento: From Aeroporto Subway station take the Violet Line (direction Trindade), exit at Trindade (15 stops), switch to the Yellow Line (direction Santo Ovídio) and exit at São Bento (2 stops) – takes around 35 minutes.
___> Estação de Campanhã: From Aeroporto Subway station take the Violet Line (direction Trindade), exit at Verdes (2 stops), switch to the Red Line (direction Estádio do Dragão) and exit at Campanhã (17 stops) – takes around 40 minutes.
___> Trains to Coimbra: timetables available at CP – Comboios de Portugal.
• Subway + Bus — From the Airport take the subway to Campo 24 de Agosto station (Violet Line, direction Trindade). From there Rede Expressos’ long range buses connect Porto to Coimbra.
• Car Rental — Available at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. The trip to Coimbra, through the A1 highway, takes about 90 minutes.

You may also fly to LISBON (Humberto Delgado Airport) which is around 200km away from Coimbra.

From there you can get here by:

• Subway + Train — There is a subway line at the airport, from it you can reach either of the two train stations, Oriente or Santa Apolónia, both of which connect to Coimbra.

___> Santa Apolónia: From Aeroporto Subway station take the Red Line, exit at São Sebastião (direction São Sebastião, 11 stops), switch to the Blue Line and exit at Santa Apolónia (direction Santa Apolónia, 7 stops).
___> Trains to Coimbra: timetables available at CP – Comboios de Portugal.
• Subway + Bus — From the Airport take the subway to Sete Rios station (Red Line, exit at São Sebastião, switch to Blue Line – direction Reboleira- exit at Sete Rios – 2 stops). From there Rede Expresso’s long range buses connect Lisbon to Coimbra.
• Car Rental — Available at Lisbon Airport. The trip to Coimbra, through the A1 highway, takes about 120 minutes.
